Celebrating Success in South East Cornwall
Young people in South East Cornwall have celebrated their successful completion of a course they hope will help them move into education, employment or training. The project is part of the “Skills for Young People” project which is funded by the European Social Fund.
The course was completed by nine young people who all attended the celebration of their success at Eliot House Hotel in Liskeard on Friday 17th March. The fifteen day course called, “Activate Your Future” is for young people between the age of 16 and 24. The course has helped to deal with improving the confidence, motivation and overall employability and life skills of the most socially-excluded young people who face numerous barriers to accessing work.
The course has been delivered by Motiv-8 SW, an empowering coach-mentoring organisation delivering life changing programmes and one to one coaching throughout the South West, helping move people closer towards employment, further education or training.
Through coach-mentoring techniques, the course challenges people to think differently and change their attitudes, behaviours and mind sets to overcome the barriers and challenges they face in their everyday lives and become work ready. The aim is to inspire, empower and motivate individuals to unlock their true potential, whilst teaching valuable life and employability skills, so enabling those who attend to succeed in whatever they choose to do.
Josh, a graduate of the course said, “I used to have a negative attitude but this course has helped me to change that to a positive one. I’d really like to find a job and a career as a sports coach.”
Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall was at the event to make the presentations said, “It’s been a privilege to be involved in this event. The futures of all the young people here looks bright. Since 2010 youth unemployment in South East Cornwall has more than halved and it’s thanks to courses like this, that have helped us to achieve that. I wish them all the best of luck for the future.”
Kieron Yeoman, Director of Motiv-8 SW said, “We are firm believers in our motto that every Individual matters and hence we are extremely passionate about increasing every individual’s chances of progressing to employment and contributing to their local communities.”
