Cornwall’s Young Apprenticeship Ambassadors spread the word
Twelve new Young Apprenticeship Ambassadors are now blazing a trail for Apprenticeships in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly after undertaking their training in Truro.
They join the Young Apprentice Ambassador Network (YAAN), a nationwide community of 700 inspiring, driven apprentices and former apprentices who promote apprenticeships to young people and their career influencers.
With over 90 young Apprentice Ambassadors now in the South West, they help to raise awareness of the range of subjects, benefits, progression routes and extensive career opportunities apprenticeships provide.
Working in partnership with Cornwall Apprenticeships, Cornwall Careers Hub and the Apprenticeship Support and Knowledge project, the 12 Cornish Apprenticeship Ambassadors are now able to visit schools and careers events across the County to share their apprenticeship story with students, parents and teachers.
The new Ambassadors represent a wide range of careers and sectors in the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly including tourism, hospitality, social care and health, finance, construction and electrical, administration, public sector and emergency services.
Cathie Kessell, Employment & Apprenticeship Officer at the Cornwall Council and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The Ambassador programme is all about reaching out to the widest audience and shouting about apprenticeships so that young people in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly can be better informed about today’s Apprenticeship opportunities.
“Ambassadors only sign up to the role for 12 months, so new applications from current and graduate Apprentices are always welcome.”
Within the South West the YAAN also helped organise 50-plus events during National Apprenticeship Week 2019, held in March, including awards ceremonies, work based challenges and project work in the community. Their social media campaign made around 50,000 impressions using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
