European Funding Released To Enhance Careers Guidance for Young People

Up to £3.79 million is now available through the European Social Fund (ESF) to to run a project that will enhance mainstream Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance for young people in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly LEP Area.

The funding forms part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Programme, building on Convergence funding to deliver economic regeneration for the region from 2014-2020.

Applicants for the funding are encouraged to propose innovative solutions that enhance the local careers guidance services for young people.  Proposals should include relationship building with employers to help increase access to traineeships, apprenticeships, work experience, supported internships for young people with learning difficulties and support for employers to take on young people who are not in education, employment or training.

Sandra Rothwell, representing the Local Enterprise Partnership on the Integrated Territorial Investment Board, said, “This call is a great opportunity to bring new ideas to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly that will give our young people excellent learning experiences that prepare them for a rewarding career.  Exposure to different career options at a young age is vital to helping young people and their families make important decisions.”

Priorities for ESF are to increase labour market participation, promote social inclusion and develop the skills of the potential and existing workforce.
