In Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly there are almost 50,000 working age people whose day-to-day activities are limited by a long term illness or disability. This is over 15% of the working age population, and well above the national average, but research shows that many businesses lack the confidence and knowledge to employ them.

About The Project

The Cornwall Work and Health Beacon Project is the first of its kind in the UK and aims to work with businesses to co-create solutions that will support them to recruit and retain a diverse workforce. This project will help the Work and Health Unit understand how to work most effectively with local areas and the SME business community, building their knowledge and evidence allowing them to scale up the good practice and replicate it to other areas of the UK. The aim is to ensure that businesses get the right support and information at a national and local level to build business confidence and make it easier to recruit and retain people with disabilities and long term health conditions.
